Call for Creative Writing

Deadline for Submissions: midnight Monday 24th February 2020

We seek creative work that explores health and illness, body and mind, for a reading event in Glasgow.

We hope to explore creative responses to the conference theme in a more informal, non-academic context. The creative writing showcase is free and open to the public. It will take place 7-9pm, Wednesday 8th April 2020, Glasgow. All welcome!

We are looking for poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction related to the theme of ‘Public Health, Private Illness’. We want to interrogate the public/private distinction within health, medicine and wellbeing, and to examine the many and complex intersections between public health ideals and the individual experience of health, illness, body and mind. Writers will have a 5 minute slot to read their work.

This event is open to writers of all backgrounds and styles. You don’t need to be a student, academic or conference attendee to submit.

Our venue is Buff Low at The Butterfly and The Pig, 153 Bath St, Glasgow.

Please send a prose extract (250 words max) or 1-2 poems, alongside a 50-word author bio. All submissions and enquiries should be sent to PHPIGlasgow@gmail.com. The deadline for submission is midnight Monday 24th February 2020.
